Feb 2012 5k Recap

The Five Points Life Marathon Weekend was Feb 18-19, The 5k and Kids Marathon was Saturday morning. I had the surprise and joy to have a cheerleader! My roommate came to support which is just what I needed after a bad run a couple days before that left my shins hating me. The night before I was even debating whether I should even go, I asked some friend their opinion and one say ” don’t got”. Well then, that was the cherry on top. Not GO?! no way jose!

Race morning came to quick and early, I debated between wearing my shiny pretty newish Mizuno shoes or Mr. Old Reliable New Balance who has been with me for my past two 5K’s. I went with Mr. Reliable, but everything else I wore I had bought the day before.

They made us line up 10 mins before the race was to start. There were so many people!

I was around the middle area of the pack, I tried to find a space where I could go off without having strollers or a slower runner in front of me

And we are off!

I missed a new PR time by a couple seconds but I should have expected it since I did slack off on training.
All in all it was a great race!
(here I was attempting to do a Gator Chomp at the finish line =P )

The next day I volunteered to help out with the Marathon/Half Marathon. I was to be at mile 6 and make sure the runners were safe from possible oncoming cars, I got to my postion and was surprised to see someone I knew in the same spot. It was great! We cheered the runs and I got some air kisses and lots of thanks plus some MOTIVATION!

He was the first runner and was leading by atleast a minute!

Great Weekend, Great Memories!

Jan 2012 5K recap

It has been hard to become a morning jogger/runner. Slowly I have done some tricks to get myself to wake up early:
1. lay out my gym clothes the night before
2. have all my ingredients for breakfast and lunch at hand
3. GO TO SLEEP EARLIER! (which I think is hard for any college student!)

2nd Annual Project HEAL 5K–Sunday January 15th 2012
The race started at 8:30am. It was a really really COLD morning! I got my registration packet and headed to my car like most other people were.

10 mins to the start of the race I walked out and streched a little, I wish I could have taken more pictures but I left my phone in the car. Boo!

The route was around Lake Alice a lake in the middle of UF campus, the first time I went along this route I could not make it the whole way without stopping and my time was awful to my standards. This time it was different, I think the energy of other people really motivates you to push yourself more. And it also did not hurt that I had been training for this day! I managed to beat my PR time by 2 mins yay!

2012 year of the 5K’s

Fall of 2011 I decided to add some purpose to my fitness routine. I was the occasional gym go-er, breaking a sweat here and there but never pushing myself.
My diet was not good and I was unhappy with my body. Filled with many insecurities I decided to do something, but what could I do?
What can anyone do when they have a question that needs to be answered? Google!
I came across running, now running for fun seemed out of the question for someone who could not even finish 1 mile on the treadmill. I signed up for the Reindeer Fun Run 5K, I did my research and changed my diet along with my lifestyle. I completed my first 5K in dec of 2011 it was AMAZING!

For 2012 one of my resolutions is to get to a happy and healthy fitness level!
I decided to do a 5K every month of 2012, with the hope that I could complete a Half Marathon or atleast a 10K by my 22nd birthday in July

Running has become a part of who I am, just like any other magazine, article, friend, and mom has said: the biggest battle is getting up and out!

Fall 2011

This semester has been one of the best semester as an undergrad. It seems like yesterday I was moving to Gainesville and becoming a baby gator in “the swamp”. Three years have gone by with many ups and downs but overall truly one of THE best experiences ever.

Over the past 3 years…People I’ve met have come and gone.
Memories have been engrained in my heart.
My major has changed about 4-5 times… haha

Fall 2011 will forever stand out the most because it really was a whirlwind:
I figured out what I want to do after I graduate and have started applying to Grad School.
Studying and taking the GRE was no fun.
Interviewing for many different retail companies was exciting.
I found a deep passion for running!
I also lost weight!
Semester GPA was off the charts good!!

As Spring 2012 is my last semester as an undergrad at UF which is bittersweet.

Special shout-out to Kelly Mejia for being one of my running role-models. We met freshmen year, living in the same dorm, and have kept in touch from time to time. Receiving motivation and advice from her has been awesome. Check out her blog! Run Kelly Run

Easy Money

As a college student finding the perfect steals and deals are a must. A few years ago my roommate told me about an easy way to make some money while surfing the internet. Sound too good to be true?

SwagBucks is is a search engine type website. By doing different tasks you can earn points. These points can then be redeemed for different prizes. The easiest one and most convenient is the 5 dollar Amazon gift codes.

Ways to gain points:
- install the Swagbucks toolbar, everyday when you log into your browser you automatically gain 1 swagbuck
- use the search engine, it might not be as accurate or helpful as google but what I do is search using both, you can gain swagbucks by doing this
- referrals! tell your friends to sign up
- explore the site, there is a tab EARN, do daily polls, surveys, watch videos..many many things to gain points
- if you have a smartphone sign up to receive swagcodes from SwagCode Spoiler usually 5 times a week, sometimes even multiple times a day there are swagcodes that are placed around the site. this website finds them and quickly tells you where to find it. Make sure you check frequently as most codes last only a couple hours.

If I think of more ways I will write another post!

This is only the start…

Today was the big day, today I accomplished something I felt I never could even imagine 2 months ago.

This morning I woke up feeling lazy, then I realized today was the day. I was bummed out during the day as my friends who promised to go with me texted me they couldn’t and worse some even forgot.

The race started at 6 so I left home at 5:15pm, I should have left at 5 because traffic was a nightmare and so was trying to find parking at the event. I was rushing to get to the starting line i realized I had forgotten my headphones ughh. So there I was standing with keys in one hand, iphone in the other since I had also forgotten my armband! The first 2 minutes of the race I was weaving around other runners and walkers. Once I found my pace everything else fell into place (no pun intended).

I finished mile 1 in 12mins, mile 2 in 25 and finally drumroll please… mile 3.2 in 38:54mins Oh YEAH!

this is from a girl who 3 months ago had to catch her breath after running less than a mile. a girl who can not even do 1 pushup.

Afterwards I went to Publix and had no shame, I told the cashier ” I probably look silly dressed like this” she said ” no you don’t, you are a runner”. Yes I am today I became a runner and I am darn proud of it!

My first 5k will always be my favorite one.

If there is anything to take away from this experience is that YOU can do anything, hard work + determination + a little bit of a risk = success!

I also want to add that I really thank my friends for all their support, especially my friend and roomie Christine Wong who was there for me <3

Veterans Weekend

Whole lot of eating was involved, but also I stepped up my training for my 5K which is real soon!

As a celebration of the good things we have had this semester my friends and I decided to grill some food. We called it “bring your own meat”, it turned out to be “bring some chicken” because that is all everyone brought. Sadly, the food was better than the Gator game we were watching.

The next day my friend Tracy and I went to the Downtown Arts Festival. It was just as good as last years, beautiful artworks and lots of cute dogs!

it was a really nice day!

watching local performances

this gyro was EPIC.! – We asked an artist to take a picture using my iPhone, he had no idea how to use it!

all the walking (and shopping) really tires a girl out!
